A total of eight districts have been flooded in the country
due to heavy rain and onrush of water from the upstream regions.
"The flood situation may further deteriorate,"
said Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief KM
Ali Reza at a press briefing at the secretariat on Wednesday. Meanwhile, 1.87
crore cash, 15,900 metric tons of rice and 15,000 packets of dry food have been
allotted in flood affected areas, he said, adding that army and navy teams have
already reached Feni and they have started rescue operations. According to the
report given by the Feni Deputy Commissioner, 1,600 people have taken shelter
in 78 centers. He said that Sunamganj, Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Feni, Chattogram,
Noakhali, Cumilla and Khagrachari districts have been affected by floods.
According to the information of met offices, moderate to heavy rainfall is
likely to be occurred in the north-eastern region of the country in the next 48
hours. As a result, water of the main rivers of Sylhet, Sunamganj, Netrokona,
Moulvibazar and Habiganj districts of North-East region may increase at some
points from time to time, a press release said.
Ali Reza said that the water of the main rivers in the
northeastern and eastern parts of the country is increasing at the moment. He
also said that the water of Kushiara, Manu, Dhalai, Khoai, Muhuri, Feni and
Halda rivers is flowing over the border at seven stations. In the next 24
hours, the water level of Manu, Khoai, Dhalai and Shari-Goyain rivers of
Moulvibazar and Habiganj districts may flow above the danger level at several
points, he said, adding that the lower areas of those regions may also be
inundated.
